New Delhi: On the demonstration of Khalistani supporters outside the Indian Consulate in Canada, the Government of India summoned the Canadian High Commissioner present in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs asked him – if security was present there then how did the protesters reach the mission building? India has a strong objection to this negligence.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said – Government of India has sought an answer from Canada. We have asked how the Khalistani supporters reached our diplomatic mission and consulate despite the presence of the police. We hope that the Government of Canada will take necessary steps to protect our diplomats and missions.

Bagchi further said- We have reminded the Canadian government of their responsibilities under the Vienna Convention. We have asked them to arrest and prosecute such persons who are already involved in such activities. It is expected that the Government of Canada will fulfill its responsibility. On the other hand, on Saturday also, an Indian journalist Lalit Jha, who was covering the demonstration of Khalistani supporters in Washington, was misbehaved with. Jha also shared the video of the entire incident on Twitter, in which Khalistani supporters are seen abusing the Indian government. Jha told that the Khalistan supporters also hit him with two sticks on his left ear.

Earlier on Saturday, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie had said – We are closely monitoring the developments in Punjab. Responding to a question in the House of Commons, Melanie said – We hope that everything will be normal soon. The Government of Canada will always work for the best interests of its citizens and every community.
