Britain’s first Jagannath temple to be built in London

New Delhi: A charitable organization operating in the UK is planning to build the first temple of Lord Jagannath in London. Supporting its plan, an entrepreneur of Odisha origin has pledged to give 25 million pounds and has expressed hope that the first phase of the temple construction will be done by the end of next year.

Shree Jagannath Society (SJS), registered with the Charity Commission in England, UK said global Indian investor Biswanath Patnaik took the pledge at the first Shree Jagannath Sammelan held in London on Sunday. Patnaik, founder of the Finnest Group, and Arjun Kar, the company’s managing director, are among the principal donors to the project.

On this occasion, Arjun announced that Biswanath Patnaik has pledged £25 million for the construction of a grand temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath in London, which will be funded by the Finnest group of companies.

He revealed that the group has committed £7 million to purchase 15 acres of land for the construction of the temple, which will be known as the Shree Jagannath Temple London.
