Waqf Amendment Bill Approved : The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) has approved the Waqf Amendment Bill with 14 modifications. These amendments will be presented in the upcoming budget session of Parliament. A total of 44 proposed changes were initially put forward, and several of these suggestions came from opposition MPs. However, the amendments proposed by opposition members were rejected through a voting process.

Under the leadership of BJP’s Jagdambika Pal, the committee agreed to all the amendments proposed by NDA members. In contrast, the changes proposed by opposition members were dismissed. After the meeting, Jagdambika Pal addressed the media, stating that the accepted reforms would make the law more effective and efficient.
Opposition’s Criticism:
Opposition MPs criticized the meeting’s proceedings, accusing Pal of weakening democratic processes. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee commented that the meeting was a mere “show,” adding that their concerns were ignored, and Pal acted in an autocratic manner. Pal, however, rejected these accusations, insisting that the process was conducted democratically, with decisions taken by majority vote.

Approval of 14 Proposals Out of 44:
A total of 44 proposals for changes were submitted to the committee, but only 14 were approved. Pal noted that while opposition members suggested hundreds of changes to all 44 clauses of the bill, these were rejected through voting.
BJP’s 10 Amendments Approved:
During the meeting, BJP MPs proposed 10 amendments, all of which were approved. Several amendments from opposition members were also put forward, but they were all rejected after voting. The opposition’s proposed changes were dismissed by a vote margin of 10-16, while BJP’s amendments were approved by a margin of 16-10. (Waqf Amendment Bill Approved)
