According to reports, BLA militants blew up a section of the railway track, forcing the train to stop. Once halted, they stormed the train and took over 100 passengers hostage. The BLA claimed responsibility for the Jaffar Express hijacking, stating that fighters from its Majeed Brigade Fateh Squad and STOS units carried out a “planned operation.” The group warned authorities against any rescue attempt, threatening to kill all hostages if the military intervenes.
In a public statement, BLA leaders said, “If any attempt is made to attack us, responsibility for the bloodshed will lie with the authorities.” The BLA also claimed that six military personnel were killed during the attack. But official sources have not confirmed these claims. The militants added that women, children, and Baloch passengers were released, and that those still held hostage are serving members of Pakistani security forces.
Following the hijacking, the provincial government imposed emergency measures. Mobilizing all security agencies to manage the crisis. Troops and law enforcement have reached the scene. But officials have not shared details about the condition of the hostages or any casualties.
The Jaffar Express hijacking marks a major escalation in violence in Balochistan. Where the BLA has long fought for independence from Pakistan. The group has a history of attacking infrastructure and security forces to push its separatist agenda. This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region and raises serious concerns about the safety of public transport in conflict zones.
