Mumbai : FIFA, the largest and most prestigious organisation of football in the world, has banned the Indian Football Association. Due to this ban, the hosting of the Under-17 Women’s Football World Cup to be held in India this year has also been snatched away. Also, India’s teams will not be able to participate in any international match now. All this has happened because of the ongoing turmoil in the All India Football Federation.

FIFA issued a press release on Tuesday morning, in which it was said that the FIFA Committee has suspended the Football Association of India, with which India has been stripped of the hosting of the Under-17 Women’s Football World Cup. FIFA said in its press release, ‘The FIFA Council has decided to suspend the All India Football Association with immediate effect. Because it has the influence of third parties, which is a gross violation of the rules of FIFA. This ban will be withdrawn only when all the powers of AIFF are in the hands of the right administrators and the constitution of the board is implemented properly.

FIFA further said, ‘The suspension means that the FIFA U-17 Women’s Football World Cup, which was to be held in India from 11 to 30 October 2022, will no longer take place and will be shifted elsewhere. FIFA is constantly in touch with the Ministry of Sports, Government of India and is working on a further action plan. The All India Football Association (AIFF) is the largest association of football in India, which manages national, local and club football matches, among other things.

The President of AIFF is Nationalist Congress Party leader and former Union Minister Praful Patel. Praful Patel is the president of this association since 2009, that is, he has completed 3 terms of four years each. This is where all the controversy has started, because FIFA wants elections to be held in AIFF. And the association should be formed in a new way so that things can be carried forward under the constitution of FIFA and AIFF. However, this has not happened.

FIFA says that it does not want any third party (government or other committee) to interfere in the football body in any way.
