The flight, initially scheduled for 3:20 pm, was repeatedly rescheduled to 4:30 pm, 6:30 pm, 7:30 pm, and finally 9:30 pm before being abruptly cancelled. This unexpected cancellation caused widespread panic among passengers, as SpiceJet informed them that the next available flights were only on Thursday with limited seat availability (four to five seats per flight).
Desperate to reach their destination, many passengers opted for full refunds and booked last-minute tickets on other airlines, often at exorbitant prices.
G Prasanna, a stranded passenger, shared his experience. Unable to physically queue for refunds or alternative bookings due to a prior accident and health issues, he resorted to social media. He tagged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and other authorities on Twitter to highlight the situation.
Following the public outcry, SpiceJet announced a special flight at around 10:30 pm with an alternate flight scheduled at 1:50 am on Thursday. However, the process of retrieving checked-in baggage and re-checking in was chaotic, with insufficient airline staff. Passengers, who had endured hours of waiting without food or water, were finally offered a meal pack at 11:30 pm. (SpiceJet Flight Chaos)
