The decision was taken in the backdrop of the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. Apart from this, the expansion and modernization of the airport was also discussed in this meeting of the Maharashtra Airport Authority. The work on the cargo terminal of the airport in Shirdi is going on at a fast pace. CM Devendra Fadnavis also directed officials to submit a plan for the expansion of the runway of Amravati Airport. He was speaking at the 91st meeting of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra Airport Authority held at Sahyadri Guest House. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was also present on this occasion. Development of Latur Airport:
Latur district is undergoing significant development and expansion in all areas. Therefore, Latur Airport is going to be important in near future. Development of this airport will also benefit Latur, Beed and Dharashiv districts. Chief Minister Fadnavis also directed to start the work of the airport in Karad at the earliest and create night landing facilities there.
Chartered Plane Landing at Chandrapur District:
During the meeting, it was suggested that the runway at Chandrapur airport should be expanded to create facilities where chartered planes can land. CM Devendra Fadnavis also suggested considering two to three alternative sites for the airport at Gadchiroli. On this occasion, the work of airports at Ratnagiri, Akola, Kolhapur, Nanded, Dhule was also reviewed. Considering the potential crowd during the Kumbh Mela and the capacity of the airport at Nashik, the proposal for expansion of Shirdi Airport was approved at this time. This includes 8 parking lots, 2 helipads and upgradation of the terminal.
