Following the threat, a case has been registered against unknown individuals at the Mata Rama Bai Marg Police Station in Mumbai. Police sources have confirmed that the threatening email was sent to the RBI’s official website. Security agencies are on high alert due to the email being in Russian.
Security agencies are investigating the matter from all angles to ascertain the motive behind the threatening email. The police are also trying to trace the IP address of the email with the help of the crime branch and cyber experts.
This is not the first time the RBI has received a bomb threat. Last month, a similar threat was received when a call was made to the RBI’s customer care number. The caller had identified himself as the CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba and had threatened to bomb the central bank.
Following a previous email threat, the police had investigated the matter and conducted searches but found nothing. The police had later dismissed the email threat as a hoax. (Reserve Bank Receives Bomb Threat)
