Pune : Pune and its surrounding areas are bracing for a significant drop in temperature as a cold wave sweeps through the region. The chill is expected to intensify in the coming days.

The NDA weather station recorded the lowest temperature of 8.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning, while the Shivajinagar observatory measured 9.9 degrees Celsius. Pashan also experienced a significant chill, with a minimum temperature of 9.1 degrees Celsius. In contrast, daytime temperatures have remained relatively high, with most areas recording maximum temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. This stark difference between day and night temperatures has amplified the cold sensation in the city.

Anupam Kashyapi, a former head of weather forecasting at the IMD, explained that the November temperature drop is unusual. He attributed this to the formation of Cyclone Fani, which has drawn moisture from parts of Maharashtra, allowing cold northern winds to penetrate the state. Additionally, the clear skies and lack of cloud cover have accelerated surface cooling.
