Pune Residents Protest: On March 8, 2025, over 500 residents from more than 22 housing societies in Wakad and Tathawade staged a silent protest against rising air pollution caused by nearby Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants. Rapid urbanization in the Wakad-Tathawade region has led to the establishment of multiple RMC plants to meet increasing construction demands. However, residents say the air pollution from these plants has significantly impacted their health and quality of life.(Pune Residents Protest)

The poor air quality has resulted in a rise in respiratory illnesses such as asthma, allergies, and lung infections. Children, Older people, and pregnant women are among the most vulnerable to the deteriorating air conditions. Despite multiple complaints to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), and other local agencies, residents claim no effective measures have been taken. Officials have reportedly shifted responsibility, leaving the community frustrated.
In response to the protest, the MPCB implemented temporary solutions. But residents reported that the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained at a hazardous 310 on the day of the march. This highlights the urgent need for long-term solutions to reduce air pollution in the area.
