For years, Wakad residents have complained about excessive dust and noise pollution from RMC plants. These plants, which produce concrete for construction projects, release fine cement particles into the air, affecting thousands of families. And later the dust is settled down on the surface and remains there creating layers of dust. Despite multiple appeals to local authorities, pollution levels remain high special in this particular area, forcing people to keep their windows and doors shut as children’s and older population are more at risk.
“We are living in a cloud of dust every day. Our homes and health are suffering the people in power have been ignoring our issue and still have not taken any step to solve the issue” said a resident. The impact on public health is alarming. Residents, especially children and older people, are likely to face respiratory issues, allergies, and eye irritation if this continues. Studies show that prolonged exposure to fine dust particles can cause severe lung diseases.
To amplify their demands, residents are set to march in a protest. Their primary demands include: Relocation of RMC plants away from residential areas, Strict implementation of pollution control measures, Regular sweeping and cleaning of the roads, Regular air quality monitoring. The protest is expected to put pressure on policymakers and push for a cleaner, healthier Wakad.
