The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and MahaMetro have developed a “Comprehensive Mobility Plan” to better connect the city through an expanded metro network.
The Pune Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA) instructed MahaMetro to prepare DPRs for the proposed routes. MahaMetro subsequently developed plans for the extensions from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad Railway Station.
Because both projects fall within the Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction, the DPRs were submitted to the Corporation’s main meeting via the Standing Committee for approval. The main meeting granted its approval, according to Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Rajendra Bhosale.
Dr. Bhosale stated that these metro extensions will help alleviate traffic congestion and benefit commuters. The Municipal Corporation will not incur any construction costs for the projects. However, the Pune Municipal Corporation will contribute ₹3.6 crore for land acquisition. This funding will be released after receiving Central Government approval.
Proposed Metro Routes:
- Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor: 11.35 kilometers (10 stations)
- Hadapsar to Saswad Railway Station: 5.57 kilometers (4 stations)
Expanding the Metro Network:
Pune is rapidly expanding in all directions, and its population has increased significantly in recent years. The metro plays a vital role in facilitating travel between different areas. Currently, the metro operates on two lines: Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate and Vanaj to Ramwadi. These lines have been well-received by Pune citizens. Dr. Rajendra Bhosale clarified that the city plans to develop a comprehensive metro network in response to this growth.
