This project will cost around ₹35 crore. PMC will soon issue the tender for the same. The budget allocated for this project will be used for the 27 tanks located across the city.
Notably, Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) patients are on rise in the past two months. Key affected areas include Khadakwasla, Kirkitwadi, Nanded, Dhayari, and Ambegaon along the Sinhgad Road.
After the repeated complaints from locals about the water from the wells being supplied to these villages being the key factor behind the disease, PMC placed iron grills to ensure safety and prevent waste from entering the wells.

Additionally, PMC has launched an initiative to clean all the water tanks in the city. There are a total of 155 water tanks in Pune city. Half of that do not have security guards or boundary walls. It has increased the incidents like alcohol consumption at night on top of the water tanks and it can also lead to serious crime. Also, it hampers the safety and security of these tanks.
To safe zone such areas, PMC is going to build a 6-ft boundary wall around 27 water tanks including the security cabins. As guards will be deployed in these areas, a toilet facility will also be built near the cabins. Incase of vacant land around the tanks, trees will be planted.
