Pune Book Festival : Cultural Events, Book Stalls, and More Delight Over 1 Lakh Visitors

Pune: Pune Book Festival, organized by the National Book Trust from December 14 to 22 at Ferguson College Ground, has become a cultural extravaganza attracting over 110,000 visitors in its first two days. The event features more than 600 book stalls and a diverse array of cultural performances that have captivated attendees.

Pune Book Festival is hosting a variety of cultural programs along with books in different languages and literary discussions. Punekars are enjoying performances ranging from traditional ‘Pavada’ to contemporary abhangs, film songs to rock bands.

The festival features over 600 book stalls, and attendees have the opportunity to buy books while enjoying food from various food stalls. The addition of cultural programs has further enhanced the experience. The festival kicked off with an audio-visual program “Chandne Smaranache – Ek Kavya Anubhuti,” based on the poems of Aarti Prabhu, on Saturday. Sunday’s programs, including “Adabi Sangam,” “Deeg V,” and “Global Gharana,” also received positive feedback.

On Tuesday (December 17), from 6 PM to 8 PM, the “Garajli Marathi Shahiri” program will be presented by Shahir Hemantraje Mawale, offering an experience of Maharashtra’s Pavada culture. Following that, a duo band performance will take place from 8 PM to 9 PM.

On Wednesday (December 18), from 6 PM to 8 PM, Savitribai Phule Pune University will present the “Indradhanush” program, featuring dance and music, followed by the “Space Walk Odissi” program from 8 PM to 9 PM. On Thursday (December 19), a fusion of folk music will be performed by Nagaland’s young artist Imna Yaden and her team from 6 PM to 8 PM, followed by a performance by Punjabi singer Hargun Kaur from 8 PM to 9 PM.

On Friday (December 20), from 6 PM to 8 PM, a combination of Sufi, Qawwali, film songs, folk music, ghazals, and classical music will be performed by “Sadhyo,” followed by a band performance from 8 PM to 9 PM.

On Saturday (December 21), Energy Rai’s performance will take place from 6 PM to 5 PM, followed by the “Mee Marathi Abhijat Marathi” program from 7:50 PM to 8:00 PM to celebrate Marathi being given classical language status. On the festival’s closing day (December 22), Jitendra Bhuruk and his team will perform a film song program “Pyar Ka Mausam” to mark the grand finale.

The Pune Book Festival started at 11 AM on Saturday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the event in the evening. Many people visited the festival with their families and enjoyed shopping for books on various topics. The festival offers books for all ages, from children to the elderly.

Earlier, BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, and renowned economist Dr. Narendra Jadhav also visited the event, exploring all three halls and enjoying book shopping.
