Following repeated media coverage and mounting pressure from locals demanding action, a meeting was held on Tuesday (14th) with former corporator Haridas Charawad and traffic police officials. Fifteen plant owners attended the meeting, along with Prayeja City Society’s chairman Lokesh Bhavekar and officials including Anand Khaladkar, Vijay Nigade, Aniruddha Deshmukh, Ajit Bhosale, Amol Korde, and representatives from other nearby societies.
During the meeting, RMC plant representatives promised immediate compliance with all regulations, including:
- Following Maharashtra Pollution Control Board guidelines
- Complete cleaning of Preyeja City Road
- Daily operation of dust section machines
- Installation of barricades
- Implementation of measures to prevent cement dust pollution
- Regular water spraying
A follow-up meeting is scheduled for February 14th. Local residents have demanded strict action from the municipal corporation and pollution control board if compliance isn’t maintained. Traffic police will also monitor heavy vehicle movement during peak hours. Residents are questioning how the municipal corporation and pollution control board initially permitted these cement plants in residential areas. (Pollution on Sinhagad Road)
