PMC Approves ₹1,200 Crore for Rapid Infrastructure Development in Pune

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has accelerated its efforts to utilize allocated funds from the current PMC budget before the FY comes to end. The finance body has approved ₹1,200 crore for various development projects to ensure timely implementation.
PMC officials announced the funds will support infrastructure, including water supply, sewage, JICA projects, and development in new villages. This action aims to address project delays and optimize resource use before the fiscal year ends.
The move comes as the civic body faced criticism for slow fund usage earlier in the year. By fast-tracking approvals and projects, PMC aims to avoid lapses in allocated budgets and meet development targets.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has greenlit significant funding proposals during a Finance Committee meeting. ” ₹25 crore has been earmarked for the Rajiv Gandhi Zoo in Katraj, while the Building and Project Departments will receive ₹305 crore. An additional ₹394 crore has been sanctioned for JICA-related initiatives, alongside allocations for municipal health projects and school maintenance”, stated by Dr. Rajendra Bhosale.

PMC Commissioner stated the corporation approved ₹300-400 crore for Water Supply maintenance, ₹150 crore for a common water scheme, and ₹170 crore for road improvements in Pune.

PMC also plans to focus on health and education initiatives as part of its development agenda. Officials granted the approvals during a special meeting to prioritize urgent projects.
Local residents have expressed mixed reactions to the sudden rush in project approvals. While some welcome the initiative, others question the feasibility of completing such projects within a short timeframe.
