Pune : Satisfactory water storage has accumulated in all the four dams of the Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project due to the ongoing rains. It is noteworthy that these four dams supply water to the city. Therefore, the year-long worry of agriculture and drinking water has been solved. Currently, the water storage in all the four dams has reached 99 percent.
Till Tuesday morning, water was released from Khadakwasla dam into Mutha river at the rate of 13 thousand 981 cusec. Khadkawasala, Panshet and Varasgaon dams are 100 percent full and Temghar dam is 93 percent full. All the four dams have stored 28.92 billion cubic feet (TMC) of water. Till Tuesday morning, Temghar dam area received 70 mm, Varasgaon and Panshet dam area received 41 mm each, while Khadakwasla dam area received only 6 mm rain. 18 thousand 491 cusecs of water was being released in Mutha river since 9 o’clock on Monday night.
Discharge from Varasgaon and Panshet dams was reduced from Tuesday morning. Water is being released at the rate of 2985 cusecs from Varasgaon dam and 4480 cusecs from Panshet dam. 13 thousand 981 cusecs of water is being released from Khadakwasla Dam since nine o’clock in the morning. Y.S. Bhandalkar, Assistant Engineer of Khadakvasla Dam Chain Project, said that according to the amount of rain in the area of the dams, the release of water will be increased or reduced.
Meanwhile, the three dams Varasgaon, Panshet and Khadakwasla in the Khadakwasla dam chain project are 100 percent full, while the Temghar dam is 93 percent full. Temghar Dam is also likely to be filled to its full capacity soon. Therefore, the water resources department said that enough water has been accumulated in the dams for drinking the city and for agriculture in the rural areas for the next year.
