Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has extended the deadline of the ‘Abhay Yojana’ 2024 till December 31, 2024. This scheme was introduced for domestic, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers whose connections were permanently disconnected due to non-payment of bills.

The scheme was initially launched on September 1, 2024, for consumers whose electricity supply was permanently disconnected due to non-payment of bills till March 31, 2024. The scheme was originally scheduled to end on November 30, 2024, but due to popular demand, it has been extended by one month.

Under this scheme, the entire interest and late payment charges on outstanding electricity bills are waived. Lokesh Chandra, Chairman and Managing Director of MSEDCL, has appealed to consumers to take advantage of this extended period.

As of now, 65,445 electricity consumers have availed of the scheme, resulting in a collection of Rs. 86 crore. The interest and late payment charges waived amount to Rs. 44.35 crore. The Nagpur division topped the list with 7592 consumers availing of the scheme, followed by Kolhapur (6101) and Pune (5893).

According to a Supreme Court ruling, it is mandatory for the owner, purchaser, or occupier of any property to pay outstanding electricity bills. Failure to do so can result in legal action. MSEDCL has urged consumers to take advantage of this scheme and avoid any legal hassle.

The scheme offers consumers the flexibility to pay 30% of the principal amount and the remaining 70% in six installments. Domestic, commercial, and other low-tension consumers who pay the entire outstanding amount in one installment will be eligible for a 10% discount, while high-tension industrial and commercial consumers will receive a 5% discount. This scheme is also applicable to electricity consumers in MSEDCL’s franchise areas of Bhiwandi, Malegaon, Mumbra, Shil, and Kalwa.

How to avail of the benefit:
Affected electricity consumers can avail of the Abhay Yojana online through the website www.mahadiscom.in/wss/wss. The scheme can also be availed through the MSEDCL mobile app. Consumers can also call the toll-free numbers 1912 or 18002333435 or 18002123435 for more information. After paying the amount under the scheme, the concerned electricity consumer will be able to re-establish a regular electricity connection. They will also have the facility to obtain a new electricity connection in the same name by submitting the necessary documents.
