Pune: The counting of votes for the Kasba by-election, which has been the subject of discussion across the state for the past month, was conducted today. In this vote count, it is seen that the candidate of MVA, Ravindra Dhangekar of Congress got huge majority. In this election, Dhangekar maintained his lead from the first round. This constituency, which was in BJP’s stronghold for the last 28 years, has now gone to Congress.

After the death of Mukta Tilak, by-elections were held in the town. It was demanded that a person from Mukta Tilak’s family should be nominated in this election. The same expectation was expressed from the Tilak family itself. However, it was said that there was anti-BJP displeasure in the town as former MLA Hemant Rasane was nominated by BJP. Finally, it is being said that after the counting of votes today, this displeasure is clear after the results are out.

Earlier, in the 1992 elections, the Congress candidate was elected in Kasba. In 2009 too, Ravindra Dhangekar had contested the election against Girish Bapat in the town. However, he failed to win at that time. Political analysts are of the opinion that the anti-BJP anger in this year’s elections favoured Ravindra Dhangekar.
