Praful Patel, Sanjay Raut, Piyush Goyal, Anil Bhode and Imran Pratapgadi have won the Rajya Sabha with first preference votes. Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Pawar and BJP’s Dhananjay Mahadik were contesting from the sixth seat. It is seen that the five votes of Mahavikas Aghadi have split.

Big blow to the ruling alliance – Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, the ruling alliance in Maharashtra suffered a major blow. The BJP won three of the six Rajya Sabha seats on Saturday, while the ruling coalition questioned the eight-hour delay in the counting.

The BJP’s winning candidates include Union Minister Piyush Goyal, former Minister of State Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik. Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, NCP’s Praful Patel and Congress’ Imran Pratapgarhi also won the Churshi elections. Out of 284 valid votes, Goyal got 48, Bonde 48, Mahadik 41.56, Raut 41, Pratapgadhi 44 and Patel 43 votes.

The BJP had fielded former MP Dhananjay Mahadik for the sixth seat. Shiv Sena candidate Sanjay Pawar was defeated by him. Both Mahadik and Pawar are from Kolhapur.

The counting of votes began after an eight-hour delay following complaints of cross-voting and violation of rules by the BJP and the ruling alliance. Both the BJP and Shiv Sena, alleging cross-voting, rushed to the Election Commission seeking disqualification.

Shiv Sena MLA Suhas Kande directed the polling panel to reject the ballot papers given to the Rajya Sabha Election Returning Officer of Maharashtra, after which the counting of votes started after 1 pm. The first results came in two hours.

After this shocking defeat, the Congress leaders acknowledged the flaws in the coordination of the ruling Mahavikas Aghadi.

We will study what went wrong – Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat while talking to reporters at the Vidhan Bhavan said that what exactly went wrong is the subject of study. BJP played well by stopping the counting of votes and declaring one vote invalid. “We were confident that all four of our candidates would win comfortably,” he said.

“We are happy with our victory,” said Imran Pratapgarhi, the winning Congress candidate. However, the defeat of Shiv Sena candidate Sanjay Pawar is unfortunate.

NCP leader Praful Patel said that while working in Rajya Sabha, we will ensure that the concerns of Maharashtra will be heard and resolved. Thank you very much to all my supporters and well-wishers for electing me as a Rajya Sabha member. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Pawar Saheb and NCP for entrusting me with this responsibility, he tweeted. “I am very grateful for your support and I want to assure you that your problems and those of my state of Maharashtra will be heard and I will work day and night to solve them,” he said.

Raut blamed the election panel for the defeat of the fourth MVA candidate. The Election Commission declared one of our votes invalid. However, when we objected to two votes, no action was taken on that demand. Raut alleged that the Election Commission sided with the BJP.
