Pune Police succeeds in stopping 11 child marriages since January

Pune: The Pune Rural Police said that as many as 11 child marriages have been stopped this year through their trust cell. Also, six cases have been registered in previous cases of child marriage. The Pune Rural Police Trust Cell is taking action to prevent child marriage in their area of ​​responsibility. It provides counselings and legal assistance to children, women and the elderly.

Officials said they receive input from local residents or sometimes from various social organizations working in the area. Since January 1 this year, the trust cell team has stopped 11 child marriages.

We filed charges in six cases after the marriage. We sensitise family members about the social, personal and legal consequences of child marriage, including legal action under the Prevention of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

“We urge the public to call us at 112 Emergency Response Number and report to the trust cell,” said a trust cell official. “We will keep the identity of the informant safe. Even today child marriage is happening and we have seen many people attend these ceremonies.”

We want to tell people that those who attend the child marriage may face legal action. The village police and gram sevak will also be held responsible. If child marriage takes place in their village, action will be taken against them, officers added.
