PMPML to impose fines on contractors for strike to recover losses

Pune: PMPML contractors suddenly went on strike in Pune city last month. Passengers had to suffer a lot due to this. But now the PMPML administration has given a big blow to the contractors by imposing fine on them.

Last month PMPML contractors suddenly stopped the e-buses in service by going on strike due to non-payment. Due to this, PMPML also suffered a huge financial blow. Now, the PMPML administration has imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore 31 lakh on six contractors in the city. Action will be taken by PMPML administration.

Due to the strike, PMPML suffered huge financial losses. Now this penalty amount will be recovered from the contractor’s bill. Action will be taken by PMPML administration against six contractors.

What is the matter?
Last month, the contractors supplying PMPML buses went on a sudden strike. Around seven to eight lakh passengers including students and employees were affected by this strike. The contractors of PMPML – Olectra, Travel Time, Anthony and Hansa, announced a sudden strike after the four months’ bills of Rs 99 crores were overdue. The service of PMPML was disrupted to a large extent as the service of 907 buses was suddenly stopped during the strike.

Subsequently, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation paid Rs 90 crore to the PMPML administration. Out of which the outstanding amount of Rs.66 crore was given to these four contractors and Rs.24 crore was given to MNGL.
