Pune: Veteran Maharashtra Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat has resigned from his post in the party. Thorat has alleged that dirty politics is going on in the party. He doesn’t want to be a part of it. Voices of protest against Nana Patole started rising rapidly in the Maharashtra Congress in the state. Recently, Balasaheb Thorat had written a letter to the central leadership of the party saying that he was unable to work with Maharashtra unit president Nana Patole because of his anger.

Patole had said that he did not think that Thorat had written any such letter. He would be able to comment only after knowing the contents of the letter. “I can speak on this only when the material written in the letter is available to me.” Thorat had also said in a letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge that he is not consulted before the decisions being taken here.

A few days back, Sudhir Tambe, a relative of Thorat and Member of the Legislative Council from Nashik Graduate Constituency, despite being the official candidate of the Congress, refused to contest the elections and fielded his son Satyajit Tambe as an independent. Satyajit Tambe had won the election results declared on February 2. Due to this development, the Congress had to face an uncomfortable situation. Since then voices of protest were being raised regarding Thorat.

At the same time, the Congress had suspended Sudhir Tambe and Satyajit Tambe for switching sides in the MLC elections. Some members had campaigned for Satyajit Tambe instead of the party’s official candidate. Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat has written to the party’s central leadership saying that he is unable to work with Maharashtra unit president Nana Patole because of his anger.
