Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 : Prohibitory Action Against 1628 People for Voting in Fear-Free Environment

Pimpri: Police took major action to conduct assembly elections and polling process in a peaceful, fear-free environment. Following this, preventive action was taken against 1628 persons in Pimpri-Chinchwad police Commissionerate area under various sections of Indian Civil Security Code (BNS) Act. The police are ready and well equipped to conduct the polling process smoothly and peacefully.

The code of conduct came into effect from October 15 for the assembly elections. Since then, blockades were imposed at various places within the limits of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. Police also conducted raids on illegal activities on a large scale. Police seized cash worth Rs.1 crore 76 lakh 17 thousand 510 in various operations. Liquor worth Rs 1 crore 17 lakh was seized in large-scale raids under the Prohibition Act. 49 firearms and 100 cartridges were seized. Ganja and other narcotics worth Rs 37 lakh 93 thousand were seized. In order to curb crime, preventive action was taken against 1628 persons under various sections of Indian Civil Security Code (BNS) Act.

Under Section 93 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 347 persons were booked and 136 persons were booked under Section 55, 56, 57 of Maharashtra Police Act. Action was taken against 49 accused from 10 criminal gangs under Mcoca Act. Additionally, action was taken after arresting 71 wanted accused.

Vinay Kumar Choubey, Commissioner of Police, Pimpri-Chinchwad has requested citizens to not believe in rumors. He requested to cooperate with the police. He has appealed everyone to not take mobile phone inside the polling booth while voting.
