According to quality, one sack is receiving tentatively Rs. 400 to 1500. Last month the same inflow was of 2,500 per bag. However, due to decline in lemon cultivation, the inflow has come down to 1600. As a result, due to the increased demand, the prices of lemon has shot up.
Water shortage during summer season affects lemon cultivation :
Lemon farming requires ample water. Due to scorching heat and water scarcity, lemon production is decreasing. This shortage has further strained the supply chain, contributing to the price rise. To meet growing demand, lemons are now being imported from Hyderabad and Chennai. Farmers from southern states often send their produce to Pune during summer to benefit from higher prices.
Rohan Jadhav, Lemon Trader at Pune Market Yard said that the supply of lemons in the market is decreasing and due to constant increase in demand, the prices are touching sky. It is expected to increase further more.
