Yasin Malik begins on hunger strike in Tihar Jail

New Delhi : Yasin Malik, lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, has been on hunger strike since Friday morning. Malik has alleged that his case is not being investigated properly. Jail officials have given this information. The jail officials talked to him to break the hunger strike and tried to persuade him. However, so far it has not been successful.

In April, 2019, the NIA arrested Malik in connection with terror-funding and separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir. A year later, in March 2020, Malik and six of his associates were charged under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), the Arms Act 1959 and the Ranbir Penal Code. The action took place in the attack on 40 Indian Air Force personnel at Rawalpora on January 25, 1990.

Many cases are registered against Yasin Malik
On May 25, Yasin Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Earlier in 2017, Malik was convicted in a case related to terrorism and separatist activities in the Kashmir Valley. At the same time, on May 19, the NIA court in Delhi convicted him in the terror funding case.

Yasin Malik is the head of the banned organization Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). He was sentenced to life imprisonment in a terrorism financing case. Significantly, Rubaiya Saeed, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, recently appeared before a special CBI court in connection with her 1989 abduction case. During this she had identified JKLF chief Yasin Malik and three others as his kidnappers.
