New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given a big relief to the Shivraj government. The court has ordered reservation for OBCs in the Madhya Pradesh Panchayat elections. However, the Supreme Court has said that the reservation should not be above 50 percent. The Supreme Court gave a big decision on Wednesday while hearing the review petition filed by Shivraj government regarding OBC reservation in civic and panchayat elections in Madhya Pradesh. The Supreme Court has accepted the report of the OBC Commission of Madhya Pradesh, after which now OBC reservation has been found in the local body elections.

Let us tell you that on May 10, the Supreme Court had ordered to conduct body elections in Madhya Pradesh without OBC reservation. The court had directed the Madhya Pradesh Election Commission to issue notification of civic polls before May 24. The court had also said that reservation cannot be given to backward classes without fulfilling the conditions of OBC reservation.

The Madhya Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Commission had presented a report in the Supreme Court regarding the basis of giving OBC reservation in the state. In this, it has been recommended to give 35 percent reservation to OBCs. In MP, the court had directed to conduct a study to give reservation to the backward classes in the three-tier (village, district and district) panchayat and urban body (city council, municipality and municipal corporation).

It was only after this that the Shivraj government had constituted the State Backward Classes Welfare Commission, which, after getting the voter list examined, claimed that 48 percent of the voters in the state are OBCs. On the basis of this report, the report recommending 35% reservation to OBCs was presented in the Supreme Court, on which the decision has come. In such a situation, the Shivraj government has got a big relief. In the urban body elections of the state, the benefit of OBC reservation will be available in Municipal Corporation, Municipality, President of Nagar Panchayat and councilors.
