Presidential election to be held on July 18, Counting of votes on July 21

New Delhi : The Election Commission on Thursday announced the dates for the presidential election. The country’s MPs and MLAs will vote on July 18 to elect a new president, while the counting of votes will take place on July 21. The result of this election will also be declared on July 21.

President Ram Nath Kovind’s term ends on July 24. According to Article 62 of the Constitution, the election of the next President must take place before the completion of the term. In 2017, the election for the President of India was held on 17 July and the result was declared on 20 July.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said in the press conference that the commission will give a pen on its behalf to vote in the presidential election. If anyone uses a pen other than the one given by the Election Commission, his vote will be declared invalid. He said that 776 MPs and 4033 MLAs, i.e. a total of 4809 voters will vote in the Presidential election. Whip will not apply in this election and voting will be completely secret.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that the notification for the election would be issued on June 15, and voting would be held on July 18. With the completion of the counting of votes on July 21, the name of the new President of the country will be announced.

The Election Commission has given some rules for the Presidential election, which all the candidates have been instructed to follow well. Here are the rules –

  • 4809 voters in the presidential election, votes will be cast in the Parliament-Assemblies
  • Special ink pen will be provided for voting
  • Political parties cannot issue any whip
  • To vote, you have to state your choice by writing 1,2,3
  • Counting of votes will be done in Delhi
  • Corona guidelines must be followed at the time of voting
  • The value of the vote bank of the MP will be 700

Let us tell you that in addition to the members of both the Houses of Parliament, the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of all the State, National Capital Territory of Delhi and Union Territory of Puducherry can vote in the Presidential election. Nominated members of Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha or Legislative Assemblies do not have the right to vote in the Presidential elections. Voting for the presidential election in 2017 took place on 17 July and the counting of votes took place on 20 July.

President Ram Nath Kovind got 65.35% of the votes in the last election. NDA will try to touch this figure this time. PM Modi has met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. It is speculated that the PM has sought support for the NDM candidate in the presidential election.
