PM Modi security breach case : Orders for action against responsible officers

New Delhi: PM Modi security breach case: The convoy of PM Modi in Ferozepur had to be stopped on the bridge due to the protesters. After this, the Prime Minister had to cancel his program and return to Delhi. The case went to the Supreme Court. Now, action is being taken on the basis of the report of the committee constituted as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has ordered strict action against former DGP S Chattopadhyay, then DIG of Ferozepur range Inderbir Singh and SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans.

Along with this, the government has issued notices to the then ADGP Naresh Arora, ADGP (Cybercrime) G Nageshwar Rao, IGP Patiala Range Mukhwinder Singh, IG Rakesh Aggarwal, DIG Surjit Singh, while the then SSP of Moga Charanjit Singh has also been issued notices.

The IPS officers have been asked why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them as per the inquiry committee’s recommendation. An inquiry committee was constituted as per the directions of the Supreme Court. In this regard, Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua said, ‘Officials will be given an opportunity to present their views and appropriate action will be taken only after hearing their views.’

Chattopadhyay has retired. Inderbir Singh has been posted as DIG (Administration) PAP, Phillaur and Harmandeep Hans as AIG Counter-Intelligence. Last week, the Union Home Ministry had sent a letter to the Punjab government asking to take action against the officials responsible for the lapses in the security of Prime Minister Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Punjab on January 5, 2022.
