Pune: The collection of vehicle entry tax within the limits of Pune Cantonment has been stopped from today. In this regard, the central government has issued an order to the Cantonment Board in the form of a gazette. The Cantonment Board has also directed the Toll Collection Centre and ordered to stop toll collection after 12 midnight on April 13.

Vehicle entry tax was the main source of revenue for the Pune Cantonment Board. The board was getting a revenue of about 13 crore rupees every year through toll collection centers located at 13 locations. According to the notification of the central government, the closure of this source of income of the board will reduce the income, but the decision is being welcomed by the common citizens.

The financial condition of the Cantonment Board is not very good. The board has been waiting for the past few years to get its share of GST. Now the situation has worsened as the revenue stream has shrunk even more after this decision. Overall, the citizens have got a lot of relief as the toll collection has stopped within the Cantonment Board limits.
