Congress leaders and activists were to hold ‘Satyagrah March’ in Delhi against the summons issued by the ED to Rahul Gandhi. However, Delhi Police has denied permission for the march. Delhi Police did not allow Congress leaders and activists to march on the ED office along with Rahul Gandhi.

Alleging that the central government was misusing the probe mechanism, the Congress had decided to hold a ‘satyagraha’ outside the ED office on June 13. Also, in the case of summoning Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress had declared a nationwide satyagraha.

What exactly is the National Herald case?
The ‘National Herald’ was started by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. This was considered to be the mouthpiece of the Congress. The newspaper closed shortly after. However, in 2012, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi’s Young India re-acquired the rights of this newspaper. BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy had alleged that they had taken assets worth Rs 1600 crore for just Rs 50 lakh. An inquiry is underway into the matter.

Young India, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi have stakes in the National Herald. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are directors of Young India Private Limited. The Patiala House court had convicted Rahul and Sonia Gandhi of fraud and conspiracy. Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were accused of acquiring ownership of Associate Journals by Young India for just Rs 50 lakh.
