Nagaland gets second railway station after 100 years, CM says it’s historic day for us

New Delhi: The state of Nagaland, situated in the mountain ranges in the north-eastern part of India, has got a second railway station after almost 100 years. On Friday 26th August the ‘Donyi Polo Express’ departed from the new ‘Sokhuvi Railway Station’ in Nagaland.

Chief Minister Nephiu Rio flagged off the ‘Donyi Polo Express’ at the new ‘Sokhuvi Railway Station’. After more than 100 years, Nagaland has got a second railway station. So this day became very important for Nagaland. The first railway station in Nagaland was built in 1903. The first railway station was opened in 1903 in Dimapur, the capital of Nagaland.

Donyi Polo Express was earlier running between Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh. By increasing the number of stops of this express, this has now reached Shokhuvi railway station, which is a few kilometers away from Timapur.

The route of Donyi Polo Express has been extended. With the addition of Shukhovi railway station, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will now be connected by direct rail service. Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio tweeted that Friday is a historic day in the history of Nagaland.

On the other hand, North East Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Anshul Gupta said that this is a proud moment for Indian Railways and NFR. NFR is working to connect all the capitals of North Eastern states by rail.
