Mumbai : Corona cases are increasing rapidly in Maharashtra. More than one thousand new cases were found in the state for the second consecutive day on Monday. 1036 new cases were reported on Monday. If we look at the average of the last seven days, then this is the highest after 26 February, when the corona cases started decreasing. The positivity rate is also 4.25 percent, which is the maximum after February 13. Expert doctors say that it is too early to say whether this should be considered as the arrival of fourth wave of corona. Unless there is a new variant, the chances of a new wave are slim.

State Health Minister Rajesh Tope is also saying that there is no need to worry much as the severity of the virus is not high and the hospitalization rate among patients is very low.

According to Hindustan Times, Health Minister Rajesh Tope, after the cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, said that this increase in corona cases is mainly due to Omicron’s variants BA.4 and BA.5, which is highly contagious. However, hospitalization rate of corona patients is very low in the whole of Maharashtra and Mumbai as well. According to the available data, only 1 percent of the positive patients are facing the danger of being admitted to the hospital. There are 24,579 beds in Mumbai, out of which only 185 i.e. 0.74 percent were filled on Monday. Out of 4768 beds with oxygen facility, only 14 (0.29 percent) had patients.

Rajesh Tope said that 676 new cases were found in Mumbai on Monday. From the last week of May, 60-70 percent of the total cases in the state are being found in Mumbai itself. In the cabinet meeting, the Health Minister told that in the last seven days, Mumbai (67.287%), Thane (17.17%), Pune (7.42%), Raigad (3.36%) and Palghar (2%) percent cases were found. The daily positivity rate in these five districts ranged from 3 to 8 percent. The data of how many BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron cases are there in the increasing corona cases in Maharashtra is not available. Due to these two variants, a new wave of corona is coming in countries like South Africa. One of the reasons scientists believe that it is more infectious is that this variant is more adept at dodging antibodies present in the body.

Experts believe that immunity has been built up in most of the people of India due to the BA.2 variant of the micromicron, which is still working. Apart from this, the spread of Omicron virus is definitely more, but the condition of its patients becomes less serious.

Maharashtra’s surveillance officer and epidemiologist Dr Pradeep Awte says that unless there is a completely new variant of the corona virus, the chances of a fourth wave are very low. The corona cases that are increasing right now are all variants of Omicron, which brought the third wave. Cases will increase for the next few weeks, but then they will start decreasing.
