Mumbai: Where the Meteorological Department has estimated the average rainfall in the country, there is a big news about the arrival of monsoon. This is likely to increase the concern of many people including farmers. Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, has said that the monsoon will be late in Kerala this year.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has not yet announced the forecast for the onset of monsoon. However, in April it predicted below normal rainfall over northwest India, west India, central and northeast India. Whereas, moderate rains are expected over parts of Deccan Plateau, parts of adjoining east and north-eastern regions and parts of northwest region.

According to the latest forecast by Skymet, after May 18, thunderstorms and storms will start over North India. The heat wave will continue till June this year. It is said that the onset of monsoon is likely to be short and delayed. Skymet founder-director Jatin Singh tweeted the 15-day rain forecast. Sowing of crops is said to be delayed. This is a matter of concern for the farmers.

Every year the monsoon usually enters India from the Kerala coast on 1st June. But this year the monsoon will come late. However, according to Skymet’s earlier forecast, the monsoon from June to September would be 94 per cent below average. According to the Meteorological Department, there is an estimate of 83.5 mm of rain during this period. That is, it will be 96 percent of the average.
