Kolkata : West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress general secretary Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday after nearly 26 hours of questioning in connection with the alleged recruitment scam in government schools. Yesterday, the investigating agency had received Rs 20 crore in cash from the house of his close aide Arpita Mukherjee.
The houses of about a dozen people, including two ministers of the ruling Trinamool Congress, were raided on Friday in connection with the probe into the teacher recruitment scam.
ED officials had reached Partha Chatterjee’s house on Friday morning and questioned him in connection with the SSC scam probe.
A bench of the Calcutta High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry into the recruitment process of teachers in government-aided schools. The ED is probing alleged money laundering in recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff for government-aided schools.

- ED has told that Arpita Mukherjee is a close associate of Minister Partha Chatterjee in the Government of West Bengal.

- Sources say that Arpita met Partha only through the Durja Puja committee.
- At the same time, TMC has categorically denied that Arpita Mukherjee has anything to do with the party.
