India gets Asia’s largest helicopter manufacturing facility

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the India Energy Week 2023 in Bengaluru. This Energy Week will run from February 6 to 8. During this Energy Week, PM Modi today inaugurated HAL’s helicopter factory at Tumakuru, Karnataka. It is the largest helicopter company in Asia. According to the Ministry of Defence, it is a greenfield helicopter factory. More than 1000 helicopters will be manufactured here in the next 20 years.

This factory is spread over 615 acres and helicopters will be manufactured here. It is planned to make about 30 helicopters every year.

The government has prepared a plan with complete planning :


1) Emphasis on increasing helicopter manufacturing capacity –
With the help of this largest helicopter factory in Asia, the helicopter manufacturing capacity of the country will increase. In the initial phase Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) will be built. It is a single engine helicopter of indigenous design and 3-ton range. 30 helicopters will be manufactured here in the first year.

2) 60 to 90 helicopters will be produced every year –
Initially 30 and then 60 to 90 helicopters per year at the factory is set to be produced. Apart from light utility helicopters at the factory, light combat (LCH) and Indian multi-role helicopters will be developed after some time. (IMRH) will also be created.

3) Boosting exports along with self-reliance –
Through this factory, the Made in India campaign in the defense sector will be boosted, apart from this, helicopter repair work will also be done here. Civil light utility helicopters manufactured here will also be exported.

4) Employment to 6 thousand youth –
According to a statement issued by the PMO, the target is to manufacture 1 thousand helicopters here in the next 20 years. Therefore, around 6 thousand youth will also get employment. The country will advance in the manufacturing sector and the youth of the country will also get an opportunity.

5) Changes to the factory –
According to the Ministry of Defence, HAL’s presence in Bangalore will be beneficial. This will boost the aerospace manufacturing ecosystem. Due to the development here, schools, colleges, residential areas will also be developed. Medical and health services will get a boost. Apart from this, the factory is fully operational by installing facilities like Air Traffic Control, Flight Hangar, Final Assembly Hangar, Structure Assembly Hangar. It will be equipped with modern technology.
