Gujarat: Wall of salt factory collapses in Morbi, 12 workers killed

Morbi : At least 12 people were killed when the wall of a salt factory collapsed in Gujarat’s Halvad industrial area in Morbi. The accident happened as the wall was old. PM Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the accident.

The incident took place at Sagar Salt Factory. Expressing grief over the accident, Gujarat Labor and Employment Minister and local MLA Brajesh Merja said that the government is with the families of the casualties. At least 12 workers have died, he said.

30 workers feared trapped
The accident happened while depositing the sack of salt adjacent to the wall. In the meantime, the wall collapsed. Many laborers died due to being buried under sacks of salt. 30 laborers are feared to be buried. JCBs and cutters are being used to rescue the people trapped under the debris. District administrative officers are present at the spot. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

PM Modi said that this is a heart-breaking incident. He is with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. He wished the injured a speedy recovery. On the other hand, the PMO said that the dependents of the deceased would be given an assistance of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 50,000 would be given to each injured. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed grief over the accident.

CM Bhupendra Patel announced Rs 4 lakh
Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel has announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased from the CM Relief Fund. Patel has directed the Collector and other officers of Morbi for immediate relief and rescue.
