The Rana couple had announced last month to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside ‘Matoshree’, residence of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray. This sparked a lot of controversy in political circles. After the demonstration of Shiv Sainiks, Mumbai Police arrested Rana couple on 23 April. FIR was registered against them under sedition and other charges. However, later a special court in Mumbai granted them bail on May 4.
The court had said that after being released on bail, the applicant should not commit any such offense and should not talk to the media on any matter related to the case.
Opposing the bail plea of the Rana couple, the police had told the court that the plan of the Rana couple was a big conspiracy against the government. The police had claimed that the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and political opponents of CM Uddhav Thackeray in the state wanted to prove that the chief minister was against Hindus.
