New Delhi : The central government on Tuesday announced that it will give 10 per cent reservation to the youths selected under the Agneepath scheme in the army after completing four years in forces like the CAPFs and the Assam Rifles.

In a tweet from the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has been said that Agniveers will get relaxation of up to three years more than the maximum age limit for recruitment in these two central forces. At the same time, for the first batch of Agniveers, this relaxation will be of five years.

This announcement from the government has come at a time when youth across the country are protesting by taking to the streets regarding the Agneepath scheme. Buses and trucks were set ablaze by a group of protesters again in Bihar’s Jehanabad today. At present, Section 144 has been imposed in many districts to keep this situation under control. Along with this, it has been decided to shut down the internet as well.

Earlier, the central government had given many assurances regarding the future of Agniveers. The government had said that while 25 per cent of the youth joining the Agneepath scheme would directly join the army after four years, the rest would get priority in other recruitments. BJP-ruled states such as Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana had announced that they would give priority to Agniveers in state police recruitment.
