Agneepath Scheme: Caste & religion certificate was sought earlier too, Clarifies Army

New Delhi : The army has given a clarification on the (Caste & religion certificate for army recruitment) demand for caste and religion certificate in military recruitment. Military officials say that there has been no change in the military recruitment process under the Agneepath scheme. Caste and religion certificate has been sought in the past as well. In fact, politics had started when caste and religion certificates were sought for the Agneepath scheme.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh and JDU leader Upendra Kushwaha raised questions on the plan by sharing a screen shot related to military recruitment. Both had said that what is the need of caste and religion certificate in military recruitment. Sanjay Singh had claimed that for the first time in the history of India, caste certificate is being sought in military recruitment.

When asked for reason behind submitting religion certificate in military recruitment, an army officer said that it is necessary to know religion to perform the last rites of soldiers who died during training and deployment. With this, his last rites are performed according to the same religion.
