High-Security Registration Plates : The Maharashtra government has issued a directive requiring all vehicles registered before April 2019 to equip with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) by March 31, 2025. This initiative aims to bolster vehicle security, streamline identification processes, and combat vehicle theft.
Online Booking & Costs –
To facilitate the process, the Maharashtra Transport Department has appointed three agencies to oversee HSRP installations across the state. Vehicle owners can now conveniently book their HSRP installations online through the official portal: Click Here.
The cost of HSRP installation, inclusive of GST and the snap lock, varies by vehicle type –
Two-wheelers & Tractors: ₹531
Three-wheelers: ₹590
Cars, Buses, & Trucks: ₹879
Benefits of HSRPs –
Initially introduced in 2019 for newly registered vehicles, HSRPs are designed with enhanced security features. These include a unique identification number, a hologram, and registration details, making them tamper-proof. These features significantly improve vehicle tracking and security, reducing the risk of theft and aiding law enforcement efforts.
Compliance Process –
Online Booking: Vehicle owners must book their HSRP installation appointments through the official online portal.
Appointment Scheduling: Appointments can be scheduled and rescheduled up to three times for flexibility.
Installation Centers: Designated centers across Maharashtra will handle the installation process.
Penalties for Non-Compliance –
Failure to comply with the HSRP mandate by the March 31, 2025 deadline may result in fines or other penalties. The Transport Department urges vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid potential penalties and last-minute congestion at installation centers.

Select Plate Type: Choose the appropriate plate type based on your vehicle’s category and variant.
Enter Vehicle Details: Enter your vehicle’s registration number, chassis number, engine number, and select “Maharashtra” as the state.
Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), proof of identity, and proof of address.
Select Location & Book: Choose a convenient location and schedule your appointment.
Make Payment: Complete the online payment process.
Download Receipt: Download the payment receipt for your records.
Visit Center: Visit the selected fitment center at your scheduled appointment time for HSRP installation.
