The incident happened around 10:45 p.m. when a large crowd gathered on FC Road Pune to celebrate India’s win. The clash involved two groups — one from Pulachiwadi and the other from Ghorpade Peth. According to police, the groups did not know each other before the incident.
The fight reportedly started over a minor issue when a member of one group accidentally pushed someone from the other group. What began as an argument soon turned violent. Both groups physically attacked each other in the middle of the crowd.
During the clash, one person suffered a head injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The fight created panic among other people present at the spot. Police from Deccan Gymkhana police station quickly reached the scene. Officers used mild force to break up the fight and disperse the crowd. Some youths even climbed on police vehicles near Good Luck Chowk and FC Road, forcing police to take control of the situation.
A police officer said, “We have registered a case of affray and obstructing a public servant in duty against seven people involved in the clash.” The large gathering also led to traffic jams on FC Road Pune, making it difficult for vehicles to move. By 11:10 p.m., police managed to bring the situation under control and clear the road.
