Acting on a tip-off, Pune Police’s Crime Branch Unit 6, in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), raided a warehouse in Maniknagar. Inside, officials discovered paneer manufactured in highly unsanitary conditions using synthetic ingredients. The seized items included:1,400 kg of adulterated paneer. 400 kg of GMS powder (used to enhance texture) 1,800 kg of SMP powder (skimmed milk powder). 718 liters of palm oil. The total value of confiscated goods was estimated at ₹11.56 lakh.
Authorities warned that consuming adulterated paneer poses severe health risks, including food poisoning and long-term digestive issues. Officials collected samples for lab testing and immediately destroyed the remaining stock to prevent public harm.
The accused, identified as Sopan Chaburao Salve, a resident of Dubenagar in Wagholi, has been booked for running the illegal paneer production unit. Reports indicate he had been previously involved in similar offenses.
Officials have urged consumers to remain cautious when buying dairy products. They encouraged reporting suspicious activities to help curb food adulteration. “Ensuring public health is our priority. We will continue strict action against such offenders,” an FDA official stated. This Pune paneer seizure highlights the growing concerns over food safety and the urgent need for stricter enforcement against adulteration.
