Blue Nile Restaurant Controversy : Restaurateur’s Alleged Citizenship Fraud Sparks National Security Concerns
Pune : Blue Nile Restaurant Controversy : A prominent Iranian-origin family in Pune is under investigation for allegedly living in India through fraudulent citizenship claims, potentially risking deportation. The case centers around Abdul Hamid Jafarinaeimi, owner of the iconic Blue Nile Restaurant, who stands accused of systematically exploiting legal loopholes to establish a significant presence in the city.
Sameer Majumdar, who filed a complaint with Bund Garden police station on October 29, 2024, alleges that the Jafarinaeimi family acquired extensive properties and business interests without renouncing their Iranian citizenship. The accusations raise critical questions about national security, regulatory oversight, and potential systemic vulnerabilities.

Key allegations against them includes fraudulent acquisition of Indian documents and passport, ownership of multiple high-value properties in Pune and Iran, construction of a 14-storey building near Southern Military Command and potential national security risks due to undisclosed foreign citizenship.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that investigations have been launched into the case. A senior anonymous police officer emphasized the broader implications, suggesting that this might not be an isolated incident and calling for a comprehensive review of the Foreigners Registration Office’s processes.
The controversy took a dramatic turn with the unexpected death of Jafarinaeimi on November 1, 2024 – just days after the complaint was filed. Majumdar suggests the death might be suspicious and potentially aimed at derailing the investigation.
Mostafa Jafari Naimi, son of the deceased, strongly refutes all allegations, characterizing them as baseless extortion attempts. He maintains that his family are peace-loving philanthropists and have been unfairly targeted.
