New Delhi : A legal petition was filed with the Bangladesh High Court on Wednesday, November 27th, calling for a ban on ISKCON. This plea comes in the wake of escalating attacks targeting the Hindu community in the country. The petition also urges the imposition of a state of emergency in Chittagong and Rangpur to quell ongoing protests in these cities.

The High Court has sought clarification from the Bangladesh government regarding recent activities of ISKCON. The Daily Star reported that the court has directed Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman to provide a detailed report on the government’s actions by Thursday.

The court bench, comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury, issued this order after reviewing newspaper reports on ISKCON, presented by Supreme Court lawyer Moniruzzaman.

The High Court has emphasized the urgency of immediate government intervention to address the situation, which has significantly heightened concerns about the safety and security of religious minorities in Bangladesh.

The current unrest is a direct consequence of the arrest of prominent Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu at Dhaka airport on November 25th. The monk, renowned for his advocacy of the rights and safety of religious minorities, has been charged with sedition and denied bail.
