Ajanta Ellora Film Festival Honors Sai Paranjpye with Padmapani Award
The 10th Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival has announced the Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award for veteran filmmaker Sai Paranjpye. The festival will take place in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar from January 15 to 19, 2025. Organizers shared the news during a press conference led by Nandkishore Kagliwal, Ankushrao Kadam, and Ashutosh Gowariker.
Paranjpye, a Padma Bhushan awardee, has contributed significantly to Indian cinema. Her notable works include Sparsh, Chashme Buddoor, and Katha. Over a career spanning four decades, her films explored human relationships with deep emotional impact. Paranjpye is also recognized for her contributions to children’s theatre and Marathi literature, particularly children’s books.
The Padmapani Award includes a trophy, certificate, and ₹2 lakh cash prize. A special selection committee chaired by Latika Padgaonkar chose Paranjpye for this honor. Committee members included Ashutosh Gowariker, Sunil Sukthankar, and Chandrakant Kulkarni.
The award ceremony will take place on January 15, 2025, at Rukmini Auditorium, MGM Campus, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The festival’s screenings will continue at INOX, Prozone Mall, showcasing films from India and abroad.

Paranjpye’s recognition celebrates her contributions beyond cinema. She served as the Chairperson of the Children’s Film Society of India for two terms. Her storytelling prowess earned accolades like Filmfare Awards and the Maharashtra Foundation Award.
