102-Year-Old Man from Nanded Village Maintains Uninterrupted Voting Tradition
Pune: Nivrutti Darwatkar, a 102-year-old resident of Nanded village, has consistently exercised his right to vote in every election since India’s first general election, including the ongoing Maharashtra Assembly elections on November 20, 2024.
Born on May 19, 1923, in Nanded village, Sinhgad Road, Darwatkar recently celebrated his 102nd birthday. Despite his age, his indomitable spirit is inspiring the youth. He first cast his vote in the inaugural Lok Sabha elections of 1952. He proudly shares that he has had the privilege of participating in every Maharashtra Assembly election since 1962. He has never missed an opportunity to exercise his right to vote in any election held so far.
Darvankar completed his education up to the third grade and is proficient in Modi script (a cursive script used to write the Marathi language). Even today, he can read and write in Modi Script. His passion for wrestling since childhood has earned him a local reputation. His grandson, Ajay Darwatkar, mentioned that regardless of his age, Darwatkar always brings his grandchildren along to the polling booth to cast his vote, emphasizing the importance of voting.
