SC Stays Waqf Amendment Act: Supreme Court stayed the Waqf Amendment Act and gave important directions to central government. Although the Apex court has not stayed the entire Waqf Amendment Act passed by the central government. But it has given an interim stay to two new provisions of this act. The Apex court had already expressed strong displeasure over controversial provisions. This provisions claimed the power to withdraw the status of properties declared as Waqf and the inclusion of non-Muslim members in the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards. Today, the Supreme Court has given an interim stay on both these provisions. Therefore, for the time being, the government will not be able to include non-Muslim members in the Central Waqf Council or the State Waqf Boards.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has given an interim stay on two important provisions of the new Waqf Act, which is being seen as a setback for the government. It will be important to see what response the government gives to the court in this matter in the next seven days.
