According to further information, the incident took place around noon. The bus was coming from Kolhapur to Pune at high speed. The smoke started coming out of the engine compartment when bus reached near Shindewadi bridge. Within moments, the bus caught fire. Meanwhile, no casualties were reported as the passengers got down from the bus in time. However, the bus was completely burnt. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
As soon as the driver noticed the fire, he immediately stopped the bus and evacuated all the passengers safely. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. The incident disrupted traffic on the highway for some time. The local police and the bus company have started an investigation in this regard. The incident has again raised questions about the management of private bus services regarding the safety of passengers.
