Inquiry Committee on ‘Deenanath’ Hospital: Deenananth Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune has been in news after allegations that a pregnant woman died as hospital denied to admit her due to non-payment of advance. The incident is linked to the tragic death of Tanisha Bhise, the wife of Sushant Bhise, personal assistant to BJP MLA Amit Gorkhe. The family of deceased Tanisha is claiming that she died due to the hospital’s refusal to admit her. This issue has now put the hospital administration in a difficult situation. The preliminary report of the inquiry committee appointed by the government has raised concerns regarding the hospital’s actions. Details of the Committee’s Report:
A five-member committee was set-up to investigate the Deenananth Hospital case. The members included Dr. Radhakrishna Pawar, Deputy Director of Pune Division, Dr. Prashant Wadikar, Assistant Director, Dr. Nagnath Yampalle, District Surgeon, Dr. Nina Borade, Chief Medical Officer of Pune Municipal Corporation, and Dr. Kalpana Kamble, a specialist in gynecology from Pune Health Service Board. According to the report submitted to the government, it was found that the hospital’s failure to immediately admit the patient was a significant error.
The report clearly states that hospitals demanding deposit before admitting a patient is completely illegal according to Nursing Home Act. In this case, the committee has declared Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital to be at fault in the death of the pregnant woman, Tanisha Bhise. The hospital’s refusal to admit the patient promptly is considered a serious mistake by the health committee in its report submitted to the health department.
The inquiry committee itself has faced some controversy. Sanjay More, the city president of Shiv Sena’s Thackeray group, has raised objections regarding Dr. Radhakrishna Pawar’s involvement. He stated that some officers and employees had raised complaints of misconduct against Dr. Pawar. However, the matter was allegedly suppressed through internal inquiries within the health department. Sanjay More questioned the fairness of the investigation, pointing out that the appointment of a person with such background as the head of the committee could lead to doubts about the impartiality of the inquiry.
This controversy surrounding the committee adds another layer of complexity to the already sensitive case involving the hospital and the tragic death of Tanisha Bhise.
